Broccoli is a brassica – a genus of plant in the mustard family that includes kale and cabbage – and has tight clusters of deep green buds and thick, edible stems. It is rich in nutrients – Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc – and also contains the anti-cancer compound sulforophane. A cup of broccoli contains as much Vitamin C as an orange and is a good source of beta-carotene.
