Potentilla erecta (syn. Tormentilla erecta, Potentilla laeta, Potentilla tormentilla, known as the (common) tormentil, septfoil, or erect cinquefoil) is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the rose family (Rosaceae).

The root extract contains the tanning agents which determine the active agents (up to approx. 25% catechin tanning agents: tormentil tannic acid and tormentil red which is produced during storage), ellagic acid and quinoa acid as well as triterpene compounds.

It has an astringent, anti-inflammatory, stimulating and healing effect.

Potentilla erecta root extract is obtained through water extraction.
